Wed, 28th December 2011 Winter Sailing

We have been having some great sailing over the winter months in Milford Haven.  It really is a stunning place out of season, as it's relatively sheltered with the whole of Pembrokeshire on the doorstep.

"Edith Gray" is available for group charter throughout the winter months, ...if you would like a break to burn up some of those Christmas calories just give us a call!

Sat, 10th September 2011 Surfing up the Bristol Channel!

Brought our Pilot Cutter back to Bristol for some filming last week.  Gale force winds led to some exiting sailing up the Bristol Channel surfing from crest to crest.  Broke the booming out pole (we'll need to make a heftier one).  Planning to head back to Milford Haven this week for the Autumn itinerary. if anyone would like to join us  (cost food and expenses) Let me know.

Fri, 2nd September 2011 A Pembrokeshire Autumn

We have now brought the Pilot Cutter "Edith Gray" , back up to Milford Haven to be based there until Christmas.  The Autumn trips will focus on the spectacular  Pembrokeshire Coastline, and we will also be running courses in Traditional Boat Handling under Sail.  So for all of you wanting to sail a 17 tonne Gaffer on and off a pontoon, here's your chance!

Tue, 23rd August 2011 "Edith Gray" Beats "Jolie Bris" Record

"Edith Gray" has beaten "Jolie Bris" Fastnet Record set in 1925.

The Pilot Cutter "Jolie Bris" built in 1913, won the First Fastnet race of 1925, then went on to win in 1929 and 1930.  her best time was 6 days, 2 hours and 45 minutes.

"Edith Gray" completed the 2011 Fastnet race in 6 days, 1 hour and 49 minutes, beating "Jolie Bris" record by 56 min.

Tue, 23rd August 2011 Successful Fastnet Campaign

Edith Gray had a great Fastnet race.   Six days of hard sailing ranging from dead calm to force 7,   regularly averaging eight knots over the 650 miles, and finishing almost a day ahead of her rivals Morwenna and Maybird.

With Eight crew aboard, the vessel was pushed harder than normal,  keeping the large topsail up throughout some nights of force five to six,  ....rail under, and waves sweeping the decks.  On one night alone we put sixty five miles between "Edith Gray" and her nearest rivals.

With all this Wild Sailing the crew still found time for the better things in life,  ...Champagne and canapes rounding the fasnet rock, ...and home made Banofi Pie bashing to windward in a force six.

A Great Crew and a Great Race, .....already planning for the next Fastnet,   ..........book now for 2013!!

Wed, 10th August 2011 Ready for the Fastnet

Edith Gray is now in Southampton, ready for the start of the Fastnet.  We had a good sail round lands end gusting force 7 from Falmouth to the Solent,  she really flew!

Last minute preparations now for the Fastnet which starts this Sunday the 14th.

Wed, 10th August 2011 Falmouth Classics

Edith Gray came first place in her race at Falmouth Classics, though being the only 30ft to 40ft boat to enter doesn't mean that much!  ....so we had to beat the class ahead of us (the over 40ft) which we managed.   Great weather but a lack of classic vessels.

Tue, 26th July 2011 Bristol Harbour Festival, weekend of 30th & 31st July

Mon, 27th June 2011 Pembrokeshire Discovery

Last weekend we made our first trip to the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. We were not disappointed, having anchored off the island of Skomer we were enthralled to be visited on board by puffins and to have Manx shearwaters fly close by on their way to their evening landfall on Skomer.Saturday saw us make a tour of the island itself and then make the exciting passage up through Jack Sound. Our departure was necessitated by our needing to sail north but we know that we will be making an early return to Pembrokeshire and that its coastline offers us many prospective adventures and fresh discoveries. We are still very much getting to know Edith Gray and the more time we spend down below at a peaceful anchorage the more we recognize her comfort and homely qualities.

Thu, 23rd June 2011 pembrokeshire

Milford Haven this weekend before heading up for the Lyver Trophy Race from Holyhead - Howth.  Plan to visit the wild Islands off the Pembrokeshire Coast,  great time to see the sea birds, seals and dolphines.

Tue, 31st May 2011 29th May 'Edith Gray' wins World Pilot Cutter Review !

After an exhilarating weekend's sailing 'Edith Gray' emerged as convincing overall winners of the annual Pilot Cutter Review held at St Mawes, she won all four races on handicap and was a clear first over the line winner in two. Her jubilant skipper and crew are convinced that there is still better to come from this newest member of the pilot cutter fleet.
